The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth games will commence this evening, with the opening ceremony set to be held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, England.
The multi-sport event will be participated by members of the Commonwealth and will run from July 28 to August 8, 2022.
Ghana will be making her 16th appearance at the games, after making her first ever appearance in 1954.
With 280 events from 20 different sports set to be participated in at the games, Ghana will have a total 101 athletes competing in 11 sports.
Ghanaians will be hoping to see their athletes better their medal tally, after settling for only a bronze medal(boxing) in the 2018 edition, and 2 bronze medals(judo & boxing) in the 2014 edition.
Lots of eyeballs will be on track and field athletes Benjamin Azamati and his colleagues to win Ghana it’s first track and field medals at the event since 2010. Other sports Ghanaians will be hoping their athletes excel in at the event is badminton, beach volleyball, boxing, cycling, hockey, judo, para powerlifting, squash, swimming, table tennis, triathlon and weightlifting.
