The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), West African premium communication university has been renamed UMAC (University of Media, Arts and Communication).
Following a meeting held by the school’s ‘Interim Council’ on Wednesday, November 30, at their 6th Regular Meeting, Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo was elected to chair the position of the Vice-Chancellor of the new management that was created to be effective Monday, December 1.
Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo, who is currently the Vice-Chancellor of UMac (University of Media, Arts, and Communication) was formerly a Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism. For about two decades, he has carried out leadership skills through management and teaching in both Ghanaian and Foreign institutions (universities). Ace Journalists and Public Relations Practitioners among others have however experienced his service during his tenure in office at the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
The University of Media, Arts, and Communication serves as a broad umbrella that covers the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), the Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL), and the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI). UMAC, the premier public communication university, was established by an Act of Parliament enshrined in Act 1059.
According to a decision made by the Interim Council, the physical location and address of the new University have been allocated to North Dzorwulu.
Dr. Janetta Sika Akoto (Acting Registrar), Mr. Francis Obeng (Acting Director of Finance), Professor Eric Opoku Mensah (Acting Rector – GIJ), Dr. Samuel A. Nai (Rector – NAFTI), and Dr. Sampson Fenuku ( Acting Rector – GIL) are the members of the new management for the University of Media, Arts, and Communication.
