Cancel Independence Day Celebration – John Dumelo tells Prez Nana Addo

Ghanaian actor, Farmer, and Politician, John Dumelo, has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to call off the forthcoming independence day celebration which is slated for Monday, March 6, 2023, due to the country’s economic challenges.

In a tweet shared on Monday, March 1, the actor, who contested as National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Consistency, explained that the economy’s current state is not worth the celebration as there are a number of challenges to be attended to.

According to him, the president calling off the independence day celebration in substitute for an address will in the long run help save money for the country.

Dumelo’s tweet reads,

“Greetings @NAkufoAddo, respectfully we are in hard times, can you please cancel all state, regional, and district Independence Day celebrations? You can do your usual ‘fellow Ghanaians’ broadcast on tv. This will save us millions of cedis. Thanks so much”.

On the other hand, Ghana’s 66th Independence Day celebration will start off come Monday, March 6, 2023.

This year’s celebration will be hosted by Volta Region’s capital town Ho, under the topic “Our Unity; Our Strength; Our Purpose” with loads of activities.

The Chairman of the National Planning Committee, Lord Commey, revealed during the launch of the Independence Day that, Umaro Sissoco Embalò, President of Guinea Bissau would grace the event as the ‘Special Guest of honor’.

Nevertheless, the 66th Independence Day celebration will be graced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in addition to a vast array of dignitaries and persons across and beyond the country.
