Controversial Ghanaian Politician and Businessman, Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed his disagreement with the Electoral Commission’s decision to use the Constitutional Instrument (CI), which has been proposed to be used as a sole document for registration amid the forthcoming general elections in the year 2024.
According to the Electoral Commission, the new Constitutional Instrument seeks to see the elimination of the guarantor system for all first-time registrants to the country’s electoral register.
Despite this, the Assin Central Member of Parliament, in an interview at Sompa FM, a local radio station situated in the Ashanti Region’s capital town – Kumasi, stated that this new Constitutional Instrument proposed by the EC (Electoral Commission) is bogus.
To him, the Ghana Passport firmly serves as a ticket to every citizen’s identification, therefore causing the Ghana card to outstand the passport makes no sense.
‘’I am against it. Ghana has people taking bogus decisions. We have a whole Ghana passport, but you (EC) claim that to register to vote you can’t use it to register as a voter. What makes me know that I am a Ghanaian? It is my passport”, he injected.
The Electoral Commission’s decision to use the Ghana card as the only source of identification for voters has consistently been supported by the NPPs. Due to this, the comment passed on by Hon Agyapong startled almost everyone.
The Assin Central’s Member of Parliament has been declared a Flagbearer aspirant, with regards to this, he will be contesting for the presidential seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should in case he wins the primaries against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Honourable Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Honourable Joe Ghartey, Honourable Boakye Agyarko, Honourable Kwabena Agyei Agyapong and Dr. Kofi Konadu.
