A health menace drug termed “Zombie drug” is raising concerns in the United States of America as the abuse is leading to death and “Zombie” effects in it’s users.
Tranquilizer Xylazine is a veterinary tranquilizer for horses and cows which is being abused as dealers in the United States of America mix it with powerful sedatives like fentanyl and heroine producing dangerous effects on its users.
Xylazine cannot be banned because it is legal and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a tranquilizer for horses. Xylazine is not an opioid per se but it’s combination with other opiods produces that effect.
With reference to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it reported that 107,735 Americans died between August 2021 and August 2022. Of those deaths, 66% of them were from synthetic opioids like fentanyl.
Also, reports from the FDA reveals that xylazine depresses breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature to critical levels
Users endure damage of their blood vessels which leaves wide open wounds on their bodies. It eats the flesh away gradually which renders some immobile. The drug gives it’s users a calm sensation and it’s very cheaper to purchase.
“Fentanyl that causes respiratory depression mixed with a veterinary medicine that causes respiratory depression that is why people stop breathing” Bob Pennal, California DOJ Retired stated.
Victims stand the risk of amputation if the sores and rotting tissues aren’t treated. “You’re starting to get all this vasoconstriction, which causes damage to the flesh. You start seeing infection, you start seeing rotting flesh. That’s where you hear of the ‘zombie walk’ and you hear about people having rotten flesh and everything. Well, that’s just because of a lot of IV usersmputation” pennal stated
