The Magpies of Newcastle United have secured a Champions League slot after they managed to draw against Leicester which booked them the third place in the English Premier league table yesterday at St. James stadium.
The English based team is making its first appearance in the UEFA Champions League after 20 years since Legend Alan Shearer. They have managed to stay in the top four for the Champions League campaign after the team took a big turn in leadership.
Eddie Howe, Manager for Newcastle expressed joy over their feat and revealed he wasn’t expecting a top four slot.
“Our expectation this term certainly wasn’t top four.I think you always hope, you always believe and you have to dream. But we didn’t feel that we were ready for that. After last season’s battle with relegation it was whether we could consolidate and become a better team” he mentioned in an interview with British Sports Channel, Sky Sports.Â
Eddie Howe was appointed as Manager for the Magpies on Nov, 8, 2021 after Steve Bruce was sacked thirteen days after Saudi Arabia’s PIF took over the team in a £305m deal. He inherited a struggling side that was heading to the relegation at the 19th position on the League table.
The new owners spent £85m in the January transfer window on full-back Kieran Trippier, midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, centre-half Dan,and striker Chris Wood. These signees have corroborated the hard work of other players to bring Champions League to St.James stadium after 20 years.
In preparation towards the anticipated Champions League, Manager Eddie Howe disclosed he want to win a silverware with the team hence this summer’s transfer will be the toughest since he wants to bring new signees on board.
“There is a very small pool of players to look at. We have to recruit wisely, as we have done in every transfer window to date. This will be our toughest one.
“We’ll think about next season during the summer. We don’t want to go far away from what we’ve done. We are realistic to know there will be more games and that’s a challenge.
“Whenever you achieve something you’re not just happy to participate. You want to succeed and want success. I want success massively for this football club. We’ll enjoy tonight, but we want to bring silverware here if we can in the future” He said
