Former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyepong, has filed his nomination forms to run in the race for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Branding himself with his mantra “ A new Dawn”, his arrival caught the lenses and microphones of the media when he and his entourage converged this morning at the Headquarters of the ruling party, the NPP, to file the forms that he picked on May 26 with fellow Aspirants, Addai Nimo and others.
He deemed the filing of his nomination forms a milestone and a humble redemption mission that will go on to salvage the NPP in the impending 2024 general elections and redefine the values, perceptions, and work ethics of politicians and civil servants.
“ Today I have filed my nomination forms, a significant milestone of my inspired journey to lead our great party, the NPP, towards victory in the 2024 elections. Mine is simply a humble redemption mission to create a critical mass of public-spirited Ghanaians, which is needed to generate the momentum required to create a seismal shift in the thinking and orientation of what party politics and public service should mean to politicians, political appointees, civil servants, and public servants, indeed all Ghanaians.” He stated.
He lamented the current state of the nation and called for an end to the rhetoric, slogans, and flowery seminars that do not produce efficiency.
“My heart is troubled over the direction of the country. We must accept that where we are now is not where we want to be, we cannot mislead ourselves with excitable slogans which leads us nowhere. Ghana is really at a crossroads, and what the country needs is a new dawn, an astute political leadership with the vision that inspires hope in the Ghanaian youth and rekindles the faith of Ghanaians in our constitutional democracy,” he said.
He further outlined the objectives of his mantra, “The New Dawn,” which stipulates a believe in small lean government, primed towards delivering expectations, enforcement of law, order, and discipline, coupled with a drastic penalty regime to deter potential offenders, which he firmly holds will ensure quality assurance. He also mentioned a drastic reduction in the politicization of the civil service to restore meritocracy.
He described workshops and seminars held as wasteful since there is a need to zero in on implementation as well as ensure fiscal prudence in national procurement and undertake stakeholder consultation before rolling out policies.
“It is time to bring an end to the wasteful seminars, workshops, forums, retreat and to move into an implementation mode. That is what the country requires. Cutting waste in the public sector by ensuring that there is value for money in public procurement, therefore freeing vital resources to support economic empowerment of the youth through technical education, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance. Extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders before major decisions and policies are taken by government.” He remarked.
He hinted that he will highlight his vision of the new dawn at the lauch of his official campaign on July 11, and he therefore offers himself as a personality who believes that the NPP needs a leader who is intensely action-oriented, passionately mission-driven, very demanding of results, and prepared to pursue progress.
The revered party faithful intends to chart a new path in Ghana’s political scene, which has lost treasured values for which he proposes to restore Service, sacrifice, and selflessness, which he refers to as the Triple S Doctrine.
The New Patriotic Party will conduct a special Congress on August 26 to sieve the number of aspirants for the November 4th main flag bearer’s election by over 33, 000 eligible party faithful, which includes delegates, National executives, and the party eecutives
