The National Democratic Congress has pulled out of the race to contest the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming Ejisu Election which the Electoral Commission scheduled for April 30.
The news came from the Ashanti Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress ,Mr. isham Alhassan who remarked on authority that the party has withdrawn from the by-election to spare wasting resources.
He mentioned that the party has set it’s its gaze on the impending general polls on December 7 and a run for the Ejisu seat would somewhat mean benefitting from the death of John Kumah.
“I am speaking on authority that the NDC will not contest this by-election. We don’t want to benefit from [John Kumah’s] death. Looking at the time frame if the Electoral Commission does not conduct the election before May, any political party who contests this election is just causing financial loss to the party,” he said
“We are winning the election for His Excellency John Mahama so any preparation that we have is geared towards the December election and that is our focus”, he noted.
The decision to opt out comes a day after the Electoral Commission (EC) announced Tuesday, April , 30 as the date slated for the by-election at the Ejisu Constituency during a meeting with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) on Tuesday, April 9.
