French Ligue 1 side FC Lorient signs recently acquitted Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy on a two year deal.

The French international makes his journey back to France after enduring a couple of lawsuits for sexual offenses that riddled his career at Manchester City, eventually leading to him making a move to Lorient.

In the club’s statement, they stated that the left back had completed his medicals and would be wearing the number 5 jersey

Mendy was cleared by the Jury at Chester Crown Court after he was found not guilty of rape and an attempted rape against another woman. His contract at Manchester City expired after he failed to feature in their games since 2021.

He leaves North London with a haul of trophies, which includes the English Premier League with Manchester City in the 2018–2019, 2019–2020, 2020–2021, and 2021–2022 seasons. He also won the Community Shield with City in the 2019 and 2020 seasons and clinched the Emirates FA Cup in 2019. The 29-year-old also added four Carabao cups.

He is listed in the French squad that won the 2018 World Cup in their final match against Croatia in Russia. Prior to his move to Manchester City, he won the 2016–2017 French Ligue trophy with Monaco after beating AS Saint-Etienne 2-0 at the Stade Louis II.
