Accra Great Olympics commenced their 2022/23 BetPawa Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bechem United, courtesy a Samuel Ashie Quaye 81st minute strike at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The ‘Dade Boys’ replicated their top-notch performance against their Bechem United opponents once again after beating them some few weeks ago to claim the GHALCA top 6 tournament at the same venue.
Head coach for Great Olympics, Yaw Preko handed veteran midfielder, Emmanuel Agyeman Badu his first Ghana Premier League start for the club with highly rated midfielder, Samuel Ashie Quaye starting from the bench whiles Bechem United kicked off their campaign without their last season top scorer, Augustine Okrah after his summer switch to Tanzanian side Simba SC.
The first 45 minutes of the game saw no goals despite both teams trading very good chances with either side coming close to getting the all important opening goal.
Coach Yaw Preko had the last laugh amongst the 2 coaches when his decision to bring on Samuel Ashie Quaye paid off after the young prospect went ahead to give Great Olympics the opening and eventual winning goal with 9 minutes of regulation time remaining.
The win for the Great Olympics takes them top of the BetPawa Premier League charts for the time being, with their game being the only game played so far with the remaining fixtures set for Sunday afternoon.
