Manchester City Football Club will today, May 13, 2022 unveil a permanent statue of Club’s former player and football legend, Sergio Kun Aguero at Etihad Stadium on the tenth anniversary of the Club’s first Premier League title and the iconic ‘93:20’ moment.
The statue which is situated on the east side of the Etihad Stadium was designed by an award-winning sculptor Andy Scott using thousands of welded pieces of galvanized steel.
On the night of today, Aguero’s statue and that of Kompany and Silva will be specially illuminated with blue-tinted lighting to complete a trinity to mark the club’s era of distinguishing performance.
Sculptor Andy Scott, one of the most respected sculptors across the globe created Aguero’s statue entirely from his studio in Philadelphia before it was transported to Manchester early this month by Etihad cargo.
The permanent installation of the statue is in commemoration of the outstanding contribution of Aguero to the success of the club and particularly, his pivotal role in what is arguably one of the greatest moments in sporting history in which he will be remembered by Manchester City fans around the world.
Aguero who was recently initiated into the Hall of Fame, won fifteen trophies during his time at the club and five premier league titles, one FA Cup and six records of league cups.
“Sergio Aguero’s contribution to Manchester City in a defining era for the Club cannot be overstated. He is, without doubt, one of the greatest players that have ever played the game.” said the Chairman of the club Khaldoon Al Mubarak while recounting Sergio Kun Aguero’s effort following the installation of his statue.
“When our fans think of Sergio what comes to mind is the iconic moment of 93:20 and the goal that secured the club’s title in 44 years, his record of 260 goals for the club shows his legacy and impact at Manchester City goes far beyond that.” revealed by the Chairman.
Agüero signed for Premier League club Manchester City in 2011 in a transfer for a reported fee of £35 million and contributed to winning many laurels for the club before leaving for FC Barcelona in July 2021.
