Bernardo Silva has chosen Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’or over Erling Haaland provided Manchester City doesn’t win the Champions league.
The Portuguese midfielder placed the World Cup winner, Lionel Messi over his Norwegian teammate Erling Haaland in the race for the most coveted football award, the Ballon d’or.
Lionel Messi won the 2022 Qatar World Cup and was adjudged the best player of the tournament including bagging 4 Man of the Match awards. This was an add up to the Copa America trophy he lifted with his Argentine team after they dashed the Brazilians in the final.
Erling Haaland on the other hand has not ceased to amaze the world after he joined English side Manchester City.
He was recently named the Footballer of the year by the Football Writers Association and has also broken the Premier League record for most goals in a single season and still has three games to add more strikes to his tally.
With 52 golas in all competitions and currently leading the goal king in the Champions League with 12 goals, the forward stands a chance of winning the Ballon d’or if Manchester wins the Champions League.
Bernardo silva said in an interview with France Football: “If Haaland wins Premier League and Champions League, you can put him in the Ballon d’Or discussion, and you can also talk about Vini Jr. if Madrid win the Champions League.”In general, it is between Messi and the winner of the Champions League, and so far, I will give it to Messi.”
Manchester City seeks to complete the season with a treble as they have tree wins away from the Premier league and Champions League and a final in the Manchester derby in the FA Cup final.
