Aston Villa FC has completed the signing of Villareal centerback Pau Torres on a £33 million deal.
The Center-back reunites with his former manager, Unai Emery, at Villa Park after they spent a year together at the Estadio de la Cerámica, winning the UEFA Europa Cup in the 202–2021 season after beating Manchester United on penalties.
After Bavarian sides Bayern Munchen, Napoli, and Juventus showed interest, Unai Emery has closed the bidding by putting Villa’s stamp on him. Torres knows the grass of Estadio de la Cerámica, which was changed very well as he began his professional career in Villareal’s Youth side at the age of 17.
He joined CD Roda on July 1, 2014, under Manager Pere Marti and moved back to Villarreal U-19 a year later. Making 34 appearances and scoring two goals in Villarela’s Team B, he also made his debut in the Copa Del Rey in the 2017–2018 season.
The Spaniard joined second-tier Malaga CF on a loan spell in the 2018–2019 season and returned the following year.
On an international level, he made his debut in the Spanish first team in November 2019 and has accumulated 23 appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
He made 11 appearances in the UEFA Nations League, 6 appearances in the UEFA Euros, 3 international friendlies, 1 UEFQ Euro qualifying game, 1 World Cup qualifying game, and one appearance at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
He rounded up the 2022–2023 season with 34 appearances and one goal, accumulating a total of 134 appearances and 10 goals for the Yellow Submarines of Villarreal.
